Bonding
Bonding is a quick and simple method of improving the color, shape, and appearance of your teeth. It is perfect for addressing a variety of cosmetic dentistry problems. With bonding, we can preserve your tooth’s structure while fixing minor blemishes like cracks, chips, and stains.
What Is Bonding?
Cosmetic bonding is a treatment designed to brighten your teeth and remove blemishes. Unlike veneers, bonding is non-invasive and does not require any of your natural tooth structure to be removed. Because of its inexpensive, sturdy material, this treatment is also more cost-efficient than veneers.
Do I Need a Dental Bonding Treatment?
At Champaign Dental Group, our skilled dentists are able to use bonding techniques to correct a variety of small blemishes and cosmetic imperfections.
Bonding can be used to correct:
- Chips and cracks in teeth
- Small gaps
- Discoloration
- Misshapen teeth
- Exposed roots
- Decay
- Irregularly shaped teeth
The bonding material is sturdy, but it is not as strong as porcelain alternatives such as veneers. Because of this, we may not be able to recommend this treatment for more serious dental issues such as broken teeth, large gaps, and severe cracks.
What Is the Procedure Like?
Dental bonding is a quick and effective treatment option. Often, a bonding treatment can be completed in a single visit. This makes it one of the fastest cosmetic dentistry procedures we offer!
The process involves applying a putty-like resin material directly onto your tooth. This material will match the color of your other teeth, so you can enjoy an authentic, natural-looking smile.
To begin, your dentist will add a slight texture to the surface of your tooth. This usually does not require the use of anesthetic. However, we offer a variety of sedation dentistry options for those uncomfortable with dental work.
When first applied, the resin is soft and malleable. This allows your dentist to shape the material to fit your tooth and correct any cosmetic flaws. After forming the resin into the desired shape, your dentist will harden it with a curing light. Once it has hardened, the dental bonding will be trimmed and shaped to achieve the desired effect.
The entire process usually takes under an hour. Bonding is the perfect cosmetic fix for anyone’s busy schedule!
How Long Will My Bonding Treatment Last?
The longevity of your bonding treatment will depend entirely on your personal habits and oral hygiene. However, most patients can expect their bonding to last anywhere from three to 10 years.
To help your bonding last as long as possible, be sure to brush and floss daily and visit your dentist at least twice a year. Avoid eating ice, hard candies, and other foods that may cause chips or cracks. An irregular bite or grinding may also affect the lifespan of your treatment. If you believe that you may grind or clench your teeth at night, ask us about protective nightguards.
