Orthodontics

Achieving a straight, beautiful smile has never been easier. At Champaign Dental Group, our dentists use cutting-edge technology and orthodontic techniques to straighten and align teeth. We are proud to offer a variety of treatment options to cater to our patient’s personal preferences and unique oral health.

What Is Orthodontics?

Orthodontics is the art of using appliances to straighten and align teeth. There are several types of treatment options to choose from, such as traditional metal braces, ceramic “tooth-colored” braces, and clear plastic aligners. By offering a variety of options, we can provide amazing straightening results to patients of every age and background.

Installing orthodontic appliances requires a high level of training and skill. To achieve the best results possible, our dentists and team members undergo continuing education to ensure we are able to provide a high-quality orthodontic experience.

What is the Difference Between Metal and Ceramic Braces?

Orthodontic treatments most commonly involve the use of braces to gently move the teeth into proper alignment. For metal and ceramic braces, brackets are attached to the teeth and wires are threaded throughout. With occasional adjustments, these archwires can guide each tooth back to its proper position.

Traditional metal braces are the most economical option available to our patients. They are sturdy and relatively inexpensive as compared to ceramic braces. Because of their strength, metal braces are perfect for patients who need more extensive realignment.

For those who are concerned with the appearance of their smile during treatment, ceramic tooth-colored braces are also available. These braces use translucent, ceramic brackets to blend in with the natural color of your teeth. They are designed to be long-lasting and resist staining and discoloration.

Ceramic braces provide a conspicuous yet sturdy alternative to traditional braces.

How Do I Care for My Teeth After Treatment?

After your braces are removed, it is important to take the necessary steps to maintain results. To help guide and hold your teeth in place, we offer orthodontic retainers.

Orthodontic retainers are made from plastic and stainless steel. They are custom-created to fit your mouth. As you wear your retainer, it will hold your teeth in place so your jawbone and gums can adjust to their new alignment. Wearing your retainer is an important part of maintaining your new smile.
Many orthodontists recommend that patients wear retainers into their early 20s. This will keep the newly aligned teeth in place until the jawbone and mouth stop growing. However, the time a patient must wear a retainer may vary.

For adults, we also offer clear “movement retainers.” These are great for patients who want a less noticeable alternative to traditional retainers.
