Teeth whitening doesn’t just improve your appearance – it can also improve your overall oral health! At Champaign Dental Group, we use advanced whitening techniques to enhance your smile and keep your teeth and gums healthy.
What Are the Benefits of Teeth Whitening?
Teeth whitening is a popular treatment to make teeth whiter and brighter. Safe and effective bleaching solutions are used to whiten stained and discolored teeth. This process is non-invasive and will provide significantly whiter teeth for months or years to come.
From a brighter smile to improved self-confidence, professional whitening helps patients feel and look better than ever.
Why Are My Teeth Getting Darker?
There are two types of teeth stains – extrinsic and intrinsic. Extrinsic stains form on the surface of your teeth and are often yellow or brown. Intrinsic stains come from inside your teeth and often appear gray or blue.
These stains are caused by a variety of things, including:
Smoking and tobacco use
Dark-colored foods and drinks
Certain medications and illnesses
Although some types of stains are inevitable, many can be avoided by making simple lifestyle changes.
What Is the Difference Between Professional Whitening and Over-The-Counter Kits?
Most whitening solutions use the chemical compound “peroxide” to remove stains and whiten teeth. Over-the-counter kits can be pricy and usually contain only 6% peroxide.
In contrast, professional solutions are made of roughly 35% peroxide. Professional solutions are safe, effective, and require fewer sessions to achieve a pearly-white smile.
Don’t waste your money with alternative whitening treatments. At Champaign Dental Group, your teeth whitening will be more noticeable, longer-lasting, and more cost-efficient compared to over-the-counter kits.
What Does the Procedure Involve?
At Champaign Dental Group, we strive to provide whitening treatments that are comfortable and stress-free. To do this, we are happy to offer take-home whitening trays. Tray whitening is an inexpensive treatment you can use from the comfort of your own home.
To begin, we will take impressions of your mouth to create a customized tray. Once this is ready, we will provide you with a professional whitening gel and will show you how to apply the material to your dental trays.
For the best results, wear your whitening trays for 30-60 minutes, one to two times per day. Depending on the severity of your stains, it may take some time for results to show.
By the end of the recommended whitening period, you will see a dazzling difference in your smile!
How Long Does Whitening Last?
Professional tooth whitening results can last anywhere from several months to three years, depending on your oral hygiene habits.
To maintain a bright, beautiful smile for as long as possible, we recommend avoiding rich, acidic foods and drinks such as coffee, red wine, tea, and dark fruits and vegetables. Tobacco products should also be avoided.
Brush and floss your teeth daily and visit your dentist twice a year to maintain your white, healthy smile. Occasional treatment may also be used at your convenience to maintain your new smile.
